OBJECTIVES/GOALSTo expose students to real working environments so that they get acquainted with practical applications of business administration.DESCRIPTIONStudents are required to perform a minimum of 4-week (20 working days) summer practice at a factory or engineering firm to get acquainted with managerial work which encompass typical activities such as general management activities, engineering planning, logistics, project management etc. At the end of the summer practice the students have to write a report in their own words showing what they learned and what specific and active duties they have carried out about the business administration of the company.Although the main goal of AEE 400 summer practice is to get the students acquainted with the business administration of the companies, because of the increase in the research and development projects in several institutions, students are also allowed to work in research and development projects in the company. However, students should prepare their summer practice report strictly in the administrative operation of the company. Activities conducted strictly in the research and development area can be reported in the appendix of the summer practice report. Students can carry out their summer practices in the companies which do not strictly work in the field of aerospace engineering. However, students are encouraged to perform their summer practices in the companies involved in engineering business. Typical sample headlines that you should try to include in the AE 400 summer practice report are: * Organizational chart of the company * Relation of the different directorates/departments etc. and main responsibilities of each department/directorate etc. * Project planning and management: The planning activities should include how the company plans the personnel and resource requirement for a project that they have undertaken. In addition, the management of a project should be described. The administrative issues related to the management of the project should be highlighted. It would be nice if students could describe a work break down structure for a certain project. * Cost analysis: If it is possible, a sample cost breakdown structure for a certain prodcut of the company should be described. Items which contribute to the total cost of the product can be listed including the overhead costs.
